General Motors Co. CEO Mary Barry will be deposed in October regarding claims the company deliberately covered up defects in ignition switches that have since been linked to 67 fatalities and 113 injuries.

Lawyers arguing the point say they will begin collecting statements from as many as 35 current and former GM employees on May 6.

Among the others to be deposed during the six-month period are:

  • Alicia Boler-Davis, former head of GM quality initiatives
  • Michael Millikin, the company's former general counsel
  • Doug Parks, former chief engineer for the Chevrolet Cobalt small car
  • Lucy Daugherty, a GM lawyer
  • David Cary, engineering director
  • Maureen Foley-Gardner, director of field performance evaluation

Lawyers are launching the new round of depositions in the wake of evidence submitted by GM concerning a second lawsuit by the family of Brooke Melton. Her death ultimately triggered GM's recall of 2.6 million cars to replace their ignition switches.

A GM-sponsored investigation by Anton Valukas last summer concluded the company was guilty of negligence and incompetence but not conspiracy. But the attorneys claim the new documents, including e-mail records, show GM actively covered up the defect for years.
