General Motors Co. paid CEO Dan Akerson $7.7 million of total compensation last year: a $1.7 billion salary and about $6 million in stock awards and other compensation. Akerson earned $2.5 million the year before after taking the CEO job in September.

GM posted a record $9.2 billion net profit last year compared, up $3 billion from 2010.

The U.S. Dept. of the Treasury said early this month that it would freeze Akerson's 2012 pay at last year's levels. GM executive pay is limited by the government, which still owns a 26.5% stake in the company after investing $49.5 billion to bail out the company in 2009.

Akerson's pay is the lowest among the Detroit Three CEOs. Last year Ford paid Alan Mulally $29.5 million. Fiat-Chrysler's Sergio Marchionne received $22 million from Fiat.

Vice Chairman Steve Girsky was paid $5.3 million last year, including a $600,000 salary. Girsky earned $3.7 million in 2010 for the 10 months he served after being named to his current job.

CFO Dan Amman, who joined GM on April 1, 2011, received $3.5 million last year, including a $687,500 salary.
