General Motors Co. has approved another claim of a fatality linked to defective ignition switches in 2.6 million of its cars, bringing the total to 30.

Approved claims are likely to spike over the next two months as GM's compensation program approaches its year-end cutoff, according to Kenneth Feinberg, the attorney who heads the fund.

Feinberg tells Bloomberg Television the program is still assessing about half the 1,500 applications filed since the fund began on Aug. 1, including about 150 more fatality claims.
