General Motors Co. says it will hire 650 people and launch a third production shift at its crossover vehicle plant in Spring Hill, Tenn., in January.

The facility makes the hot-selling 2017 model GMC Acadia and new Cadillac XT5. The XT5, which was introduced six months ago, is Cadillac’s best-selling model in the U.S. The vehicle is lighter and roomier than the SRX model it replaced.

GM says U.S. dealer inventories of Acadias currently average only 19 days, less than one-third the normal supply level.
