General Motors Co.'s Chevrolet brand says it will debut a new small SUV call the Trax at the Paris auto show in September.
Chevy intends to sell the five-passenger model in 140 markets, starting with Canada and Mexico in the fourth quarter of this year. The company plans an Opel variant, the Mokka, by year-end and a Buick version called Encore for the American market next year.
GM says the Trax will not be sold in the U.S. The new model, which will ride on the same platform as the Chevy Aveo and Sonic subcompact cars, is smaller than the Chevy Equinox, a crossover sold only in Canada and the U.S.
