GM Adds Four Lower-Cost Models

General Motors Co. has introduced lower-cost versions of its Chevrolet Cruze small sedan and Buick LaCrosse, Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers, Automotive News reports.

The four models have less content and sticker prices $1,500-$2,500 lower than their siblings.

GM says the special models are intended to make the nameplates more attractive to price-conscious consumers, mainly by enabling dealers to advertise more attractive "as low as" prices. Dealers typically carry only a few such "stripper" models because their profit margins are so low.
