Deliveries of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles zoomed 63% year on year to 287,000 units in the third quarter of 2017, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
Volume grew 23% compared with the second quarter of the year. China has been contributing more than half of all sales this year, thanks to strong government support and pro-electric policies.
EV sales in China have tripled this year to 160,000 in July-September. During the same period, sales in Europe advanced roughly 8% to 70,000 units, and volume in North America rose about 40% to about 59,000 units, according to Bloomberg New Energy.
The research unit says this year’s sales performance is likely to push global deliveries of electric vehicles above 1 million units for the first time ever.
