Legendary designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and his son Fabrizio have formed a new company called GFG Design (Giorgetto-Fabrizio-Giugiaro) and are working on three new projects for two different carmakers.
Media reports speculate that one of the new customers is China’s First Auto Works. The new business is based in Moncalieri, Italy, and is part of the family owned Giugiaro Architectura.
The two Giugiaros left Italdesign Giugiaro SpA, which Giorgetto founded in 1968, last summer after selling their remaining stake to Volkswagen AG’s Audi unit. The carmaker bought a 90% share of Italdesign in 2010 and has since folded the studio into its own operations.
The elder Giugiaro is credited with designing the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT and Brera, Audi 80, De Tomaso Mangusta, Fiat Panda and Punto, Lotus Esprit, Maserati Ghibli and Bora and Volkswagen Golf. He also now heads the Institute for Applied Arts and Design’s transportation department in Turin.
