Steve Girsky, the Wall Street advisor who joined General Motors Co.’s board in 2009, will retire from that post in July.

During his tenure at GM, Girsky served as the company’s vice chairman, interim president of GM Europe and chairman of Adam Opel AG. He continued as a senior advisor through the first six months of 2014.

GM has nominated Jane Mendillo—retired president and CEO of the Harvard Management Co., which manages Harvard University’s $37 billion endowment fund—to succeed Girksy.
