CEO Carlos Ghosn received a record 1.03 billion yen ($8 million) in compensation from Nissan Motor Co. for the fiscal year ended March 31.
The payout in yen was 4% higher than the previous year but 14% lower in dollars because of the decreased value of the Japanese currency. In calendar 2014 Ghosn also received €3.1 million ($3.5 million) from Renault SA for his work as CEO of that company.
Ghosn is Japan's highest-paid automotive executive. Last year he earned four times as much as did Toyota President Akio Toyoda, whose company profits were about five times higher.
Bloomberg News cites data from New York City-based consultants Towers Watson & Co. that indicate Ghosn's combined Renault-Nissan compensation is less than half the average for auto industry CEOs globally.
