Renault-Nissan Alliance CEO Carlos Ghosn tells Automotive News Europe the group aims to replace General Motors Co. as the world's third-largest carmaker by 2018.
GM sold 10 million vehicles last year, outpacing the alliance by 1.4 million units. But Ghosn predicts revivals in Brazil and Russia will soon boost the alliance's volume. "A lot of things can happen in three years," he declares.
Ghosn says the group also will build sales by promoting its Infiniti luxury brand, multiplying sales in China and using its Datsun brand to duplicate Dacia's success at the bottom end of the market.
