Prosecutors in Germany confirm they are looking into suspicions that Volkswagen AG has been paying its works counsel chief and supervisory board member Bernd Osterloh too much compensation.
The prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig tells Reuters the probe involves “early suspicion of breach of fiduciary trust.” But it declines to identify the suspects it is investigating.
The works council separately confirms the investigation. It asserts Osterloh is being paid the equivalent of a business unit manager’s salary and would collect “significantly higher” compensation as head of personnel.
