Peter Tenberge, chair of machine elements at Germany's Chemnitz University of Technology, is this year's recipient of the SAE/Timken Automotive Transmission and Driveline Innovation Award.

Prof. Tenberge was honored for a 30-year career in powertrain technologies, during which he has written 80 technical papers and been listed on more than 140 patents. Two of his transmission designs are being mass-produced, according to Timken Co.

The six-year-old SAE-Timken award cites Tenberge's current work on dual-clutch and hybrid transmissions and software he developed to analyze the performance of continuously variable transmissions.
