European investors and analysts are more optimistic about German business conditions this month than they were in July, according to the Centre of European Economic Research (ZEW).

The Mannheim, Germany-based group's sentiment index rose 5.7 points from last month to 42 in August, the highest level since March. The group's measure of Germany's current economic conditions also improved in August.

ZEW says the gains reflect signs of growing economic strength in the eurozone and robust domestic demand in Germany.

Confidence about the 17-country eurozone surged 11.2 points to a reading of 44, the center adds.
