A group of German business leaders and economists hopes to coax Britain not to leave the European Union after all.

The alliance, called a New Deal for Britain, also will urge the EU to adopt a conciliatory stance to help facilitate the U.K.’s decision, BBC News reports.

The group contends that Britain lends critical strength to the EU, and the kingdom’s exit from the union would cause economic turmoil throughout the region.

The association, which includes three former presidents of the Federation of German Industry, is pushing for action from both the EU and its most powerful member, Germany. But BBC says the pitch may not be well received in Berlin. The news agency notes that Germany’s position is that the integrity of the EU is more important than forging a deal with the U.K.
