Georgia is offering $23 million in grants, tax breaks and other incentives to Mercedes-Benz USA to relocate its American headquarters to Atlanta in 2017, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The package amounts to $24,500 for each of the 950 employees expected to occupy the new headquarters, according to the newspaper. It notes that local incentives will substantially raise the value of the deal.
The Journal-Constitution cites a letter from Georgia's top economic development official estimating the average pay for employees at the new headquarters will be more than $78,000.
Separately, Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Steve Cannon tells Automotive News he anticipates only 40% of the nearly 1,100 employees at the company's current office in Montvale, N.J., will agree to relocate. The unit has given its staff until April 15 to decide.
