Electronic mirror maker Gentex Corp. has led a $5 million financing round for Yonomi Inc., a 5-year-old startup dedicated to developing smart-home technologies. Gentex CEO Steve Downing also has joined Yonomi’s board.

Dual-headquartered in Austin, Tex., and Boulder, Colo., Yonomi has been working with Gentex for a year to launch its Yonomi One software platform that enables connectivity between apps and more than 70 smart-home devices.

Gentex plans to use the software as the platform for HomeLink Connect, a next-generation version of its HomeLink remote garage door opener system being used in more than 80 million vehicles.

Yonomi says it will use its new funding to expand globally, scale up its operating platforms and increase its marketing efforts.
