Hyundai Motor Co.’s upscale Genesis unit is launching what it describes as the industry’s first 3D digital instrument cluster.

The system will debut in the G70 midsize sedan next year in South Korea. Availability in other markets and vehicles hasn’t been announced.

The customizable 12.3-inch screen provides realistic 3D imagery via stereoscopy technology, according to the carmaker. Drivers who prefer traditional 2D settings can change modes as desired.

Drivers can choose what information is displayed—including traditional gauges, navigation directions and a lap timer—plus colors, size and shapes. The screen automatically changes depending on what driving mode (Comfort, Custom, Eco, Smart or Sport) is selected. The “Sport” mode, for example, highlights vehicle speed and engine revs.

The G70 was introduced last year in Korea and this year in the U.S. and other markets. In addition to the digital instrument cluster, the G70 in Korea is adding “dynamic” all-wheel-drive and making the “eco-coasting” driver assist option standard.
