China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. says it has developed a modular platform for compact vehicles that will go into service later this year.

Dubbed BMA (B-segment modular architecture), the platform will support sedans, wagons, crossover vehicles and SUVs, according to the carmaker. Powertrain plans include small combustion engines, ranging from 1.0-liter to 1.5-liter mills, plus mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid configurations.

The first BMA model will be the SX11 SUV. Geely says the vehicle will be powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine that generates 177 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque.

In addition to China, Geely plans to produce and sell BMA models in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, South America and southeast Asia.
