Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. has named Feng Qingfeng to succeed Jean-Marc Gales as CEO of the company’s Lotus plc unit.

Feng (left) had been vice president and chief technical officer of Geely Auto Group. Geely acquired 51% of Lotus last year as part of the Chinese company’s purchase of Malaysian carmaker Proton, which had owned Lotus since 2012.

Gales (right), who joined Lotus in 2014 and is credited with leading the British sports car company’s turnaround, reportedly is joining U.K. classic car retailer and restorer JD Classics. He will continue to serve as an advisor to Lotus Chairman Daniel Donghui Li and the rest of the carmaker’s board of directors.

Last year Lotus sold 1,600 cars, up 10% over 2016. The company plans to introduce redesigned versions of its Elise and Esprit sports cars in 2020 and a crossover/SUV in 2022.

Feng is expected to integrate Lotus with the rest of Geely. This includes the Chinese company’s namesake brand, new Lynk & Co. unit and Volvo Car.
