Ford Motor Co. is recalling 5,800 of its 2012 Edge crossover vehicles in the U.S. and Canada to replace a component in the high-pressure fuel system that could leak and cause an engine fire. Affected models are equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the recall was prompted by a defective housing on a device called the fuel line pulse damper. The part is used to absorb sudden variations in fuel pressure.
The campaign is Ford's third recall in three months involving potential fire threats. The company recalled 11,500 Escape crossovers in July to fix a defective fuel line and another 7,500 Escapes earlier this month to replace an improperly installed engine block plug.
