Faulty fuel pumps supplied by Robert Bosch GmbH have prompted BMW AG and Nissan Motor Co. to recall a combined 165,500 vehicles worldwide. More than half the vehicles are in the U.S.
The campaigns cover 95,000 of Nissan's 2014 model Rogue crossovers and 70,500 BMW vehicles (18,100 in the U.S.) covering a wide range of 2014-2015 model 2-, 3- and 4-Series cars and crossovers.
All affected vehicles are equipped with Bosch fuel pumps whose nickel plating could flake off and jam the pump. The problem is considered more likely to prevent a vehicle from starting than to cause it to stall while running, according to Nissan.
