The French economy will expand 0.1% in the first three months of this year, according to the Bank of France.
Economists estimate the country's gross domestic product shrank 0.2% in October-December 2012. Even slight first-quarter growth would keep France from sliding back into recession, which is defined as two successive quarters of contractions.
France's central bank expects weak production and a drop in industrial orders to largely offset the benefits of business optimism and solid exports in the current quarter.
The French government forecasts 0.8% expansion in GDP for the full year.
