Four car brands that advertised during the 2014 Super Bowl football broadcast won't be back for the Feb. 1 game in Arizona this year, Automotive News reports.
A fifth company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, hasn't yet revealed its plans.
Last year 11 automotive makes paid roughly $4.5 million each to air 30-second commercials during the game. AN says six brands have so far indicated they will participate: BMW, Kia, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Toyota. Nissan is returning after an 18-year hiatus.
Among this year's notable no-shows are Acura, Chevrolet and Volkswagen. AN says nonparticipants point to "other priorities," say they don't have a specific model or message to tell or describe the Super Bowl's viewership as huge but not focused on their target audience.
