Dan Knott, a former Chrysler Group LLC executive, died on Saturday at his home in Clarkston, Mich., after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 51.

Knott cited medical reasons when he retired as Chrysler's senior vice president for purchasing and supplier quality only two weeks ago.

Industry executives credit Knott with tremendous success in mending the company's frayed supplier relations. Analysts say Chrysler went from the automaker most disliked by suppliers to the most popular.

During his 24-year career at Chrysler, Knott also helped develop the Dodge Viper sports car, Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV and the SRT performance line.

Knott is survived by his father, wife and two children. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home in Clarkston. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Clarkston United Methodist Church.
