David Leitch, who is leaving his post as Ford Motor Co.’s general counsel at the end of the year, will take up the same position at Bank of America Corp. on Jan. 1.

Before joining Ford in 2005, Leitch was deputy White House counsel to President George W. Bush. Prior assignments included chief counsel of the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Dept. of Justice deputy assistant attorney general and law clerk to the late Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

At BoA he will succeed Gary Lynch, who was named vice chairman earlier this year. Leitch will be based at the bank’s headquarters in Charlotte, N.C., and report to CEO Brian Moynihan.
