Ford Motor Co. CEO Jim Hackett will meet later this month with leaders of the United Auto Workers union to present his vision for the company—more than a week before he does the same for Wall Street analysts, according to the head of the UAW’s Ford department.
UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles tells Bloomberg News that Hackett has already told him and UAW President Dennis Williams that his priority for workers is innovation rather than reducing head count.
Hackett is scheduled to meet with analysts and investors in New York City on Oct. 3. Bloomberg says he is expected to discuss Ford’s accelerated plans for self-driving cars and what steps he will take to bolster the company’s stock price.
Settles says UAW leaders will likely hear much of the same in their earlier meeting. He adds that the union’s members , eager to feel secure about their jobs, hope Hackett will spell out his long-term vision for the company.
