Ford Motor Co. is preparing to replace another 953,000 Takata Corp. airbag inflators in the U.S. and Canada that could explode when triggered by a crash.

The new batch of affected Ford vehicles consists of:

  • 2010 model Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossover vehicles
  • 2010-2011 model Ford Ranger pickup trucks
  • 2010-2012 model Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ and Mercury Milan midsize sedans
  • 2010-2014 model Ford Mustang sport coupes

The repairs will be performed under the fourth phase of a five-stage process implemented by the National Highway Traffic Administration in 2016.

The NHTSA program, which is expected to end this year, covers about 39 million Takata inflators in vehicles made by a dozen carmakers. Devices covered by the initiative are in addition to 29 million Takata units previously recalled in the U.S.
