Ford Motor Co. says it will debut four new SUV/crossover models worldwide—all of them in segments where it doesn’t currently compete—over the next four years.
The company offers no details about the upcoming models. But it predicts continued growing demand for SUVs as millennials (those in their early 20s) begin to start families, and baby boomers (those aged 50-70 years) move into or return to such vehicles, attracted by their sporty looks and higher seating position.
Ford says low gasoline prices are helping boost demand. But it believes the improved fuel efficiency and utility of today’s SUV/crossovers is likely to retain buyers even if fuel prices rise.
