Acclaimed British actor Idris Elba will serve as “creative partner” to help Ford Motor Co. launch the all-new, Mustang-inspired electric crossover vehicle.

The new model will be unveiled on Nov. 17 at the Los Angeles auto show and go on sale late next year.
Elba—known for his portrayal of Nelson Mandela in the movie “Long Walk to Freedom” and starring in the HBO series “The Wire”—worked with his father at Ford’s Dagenham, U.K., plant in the 1980s before he launched his acting career.
Elba, who also is an environmentalist and motorsports enthusiast, has credited the factory experience as helping to ground him and shape his world view. His latest film, “Hobbs & Shaw,” is a spin-off from the Fast & Furious street racing films.
Working with Ford on the EV “feels like things are coming full circle,” Elba notes. But, he adds, “with more exhilaration and tech.”
Ford says Elba will appear in a global integrated marketing campaign for the new EV.
