Ford Motor Co. has created a new job, vice president of strategy, to bolster its expansion beyond carmaking into personal mobility.

Stuart Rowley, previously Ford’s controller, has been appointed to the new position and will focus on new business models and investments. Rowley, 49, will report to John Casesa, group vice president of global strategy.

Rowley’s new assignment has triggered several other executive promotions. Succeeding him as controller is John Lawler, 50, a vice president who had served as chairman and CEO of Ford China. Lawler’s successor is Group Vice President Dave Schoch, 65, who will continue as president of Asia Pacific.

Nigel Harris, 54, previously president and managing director of Ford India, will take over as president of Changan Ford, the company’s joint venture in Chongqing, on July 1. He will report to Schoch. Harris, whose successor will be named later, replaces Marin Burela, who plans to retire on Oct. 1. Until then, Burela will serve as special advisor to Schoch.
