Ford Motor Co. says its all-new Ranger midsize pickup truck will have best-in-class torque and payload capacity for a gasoline V-6 model.

The 2019 Ranger’s turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder, which is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, generates 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The new pickup has a payload capacity of 1,860 lbs and can tow 7,500 lbs in models with a towing package and trailer brake controller.

The Ranger’s torque rating easily beats the Nissan Frontier (281 lb-ft), Toyota Tacoma (265 lb-ft) and gasoline-version of the Chevrolet Colorado (275 lb-ft), although the Colorado (308 hp) and Tacoma (278 hp) outgun the Ranger in terms of horsepower. The diesel-powered Colorado generates the most twist at 369 lb-ft.

The Colorado is next-best for payload and towing with capacities of 1,574 lbs and 7,000 lbs, respectively. The diesel Colorado can tow 7,700 lbs.

Ford will begin producing the Ranger later this year at its facility in Wayne, Mich. Pricing in the U.S. will start at $25,000.
