Ford Motor Co. says it will spend €200 million ($236 million) to prepare its factory in Craiova, Romania, to produce an unnamed new model next year.
The plant current makes 11.0-liter, 3-cylinder engines and the EcoSport small crossover. Ford says that launching the second model will add 1,500 jobs.
Ford has invested nearly €1.5 billion ($1.8 billion) in the Craiova facility since acquiring it in 2008 from the Romanian government. The facility initially produced Transit Connect small vans, then B-Max small MPVs. It became Europe’s sole source for EcoSport crossovers last year.
