Ford Motor Co. is collecting bids on a 10-year, $1 billion plan to overhaul its technical campus in Dearborn, Mich., according to Crain's Detroit Business.
The newspaper says the plan calls for "substantial changes" to the 60-year-old tech center, which currently employs about 13,000 workers in several buildings representing some 1.9 million sq ft of floorspace.
The project envisions a combination of renovation, demolition and new construction that results in a more densely occupied campus. Ford says the final design will include walking paths, more green space, additional staff parking and energy-saving features.
The makeover aims to recognize "workplace trends and changing technologies" in a campus that will improve employee retention and attract new talent, according to the company.
Last month General Motors Co. announced a $1 billion overhaul of its own tech center in Warren, Mich.
