For the first time since the 1930s, Ford Motor Co. employs more hourly workers in the U.S. than does General Motors Co., according to Automotive News.
The newspaper reports Ford has 50,700 U.S. factory workers compared with 50,300 for GM. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV currently employs about 36,000 hourly workers in the U.S.
AN says Ford's U.S. tally has grown because the company makes more vehicles in the U.S. and fewer in Canada and Mexico than GM does. Ford also exports more vehicles from the U.S., according to the newspaper.
