Ford Motor Co. says it may revive the Mach 1 name for an all-electric crossover/SUV the company plans to launch in 2020.
The electric crossover will be a “Mustang-inspired” model that blends the performance characteristics of a pony car with the utility of an SUV, according to the carmaker. Ford teased the vehicle with a short video that shows a Mustang GT and Explorer entering an old factory accompanied by bolts of electricity.
Ford plans to test the Mach 1 EV name with consumers before making a final decision. The carmaker has used the name on several high-performance Mustangs between 1969 and 2004.
