Ford Motor Co. might postpone the debut of its next-generation Galaxy and S-Max large MPVs because of the scheduled closing of the plant in Genk, Belgium, that builds the current models, Auto Motor und Sport reports.
The arrival of the vehicles could be pushed back a year until 2015, according to the German magazine. It notes that Ford has already delayed the introduction of the latest iteration of the Mondeo family car, which also is made in Genk.
The company said last month it would shutter the Belgian facility by the end of 2014 and shift production to its factory in Valencia, Spain. That plant currently produces the C-Max compact MPV. The Genk plant is one of three factories Ford intends to close in Europe, where it expects a $3 billion deficit in 2012-2013.
