Ford Motor Co. began building its aluminum-bodied F-150 pickup truck in Dearborn today.
The F-150 has been America's best-selling vehicle of any kind for the past 32 years. The 66-year-old model is now in its 13th generation.
Manufacturing operations at Ford's historic Rouge complex have been heavily modified to accommodate the truck's aluminum body and load bed. Among the changes are new press lines to form four aluminum alloys and 500 new assembly and paint robots.
Ford will begin building the new F-150 at its Kansas City, Mo., plant in the first quarter of 2015.
