Ford Motor Co. says the just-launched 2017 Escape compact SUV has 25% more front-row storage and 15% more overall storage than its predecessor.

The vehicle’s redesigned interior includes an electronic parking brake in place of a traditional mechanical device. The new push-button system allowed Ford to move the gear shifter back and increase the main center console bin by nearly 50%.

The expanded console includes a media bin and additional USB power ports. Two new storage bins were added in front of and behind the repositioned gear shifter. The front module has a lighted USB port and a 12-volt power outlet.

The revised console also is easier to access and provides a more comfortable spot for the driver to rest his or her right arm, according to Ford. Other enhancements include redesigned cupholders that accommodate a greater variety of container sizes, a passenger-side cargo net and a glove box redesigned for easier access.
