Ford Motor Co. officially ended vehicle production at its plant in Genk, Belgium, on Thursday after five decade of operation.

Ford announced two years ago it intended to close the plant, eliminating 4,000 jobs. It has since reassigned the facility's output of Mondeo sedans, S-Max large MPVs and Galaxy minivans to the Ford factory in Valencia, Spain.

The company reached agreement with its unions early last year to pay Genk workers average severances of €145,000 each.
