Ford Motor Co. has phased out the all-electric version of its Focus five-door hatch in Europe after selling only 61 of the cars in 2016, Automotive News reports.
Ford introduced the €34,900 ($37,000) EV in 2013, assembling the car in Saarlouis, Germany, along with the piston-powered Focus. But demand never materialized.
The original Focus Electric could travel only about 160 km (100 miles) per charge. Last year a larger battery boosted the range 40%.
Ford tells reporters it will return to the European EV market in 2020 with an electric-only SUV/crossover that can travel nearly 500 km (300 miles) per charge. Separately, the company plans to debut a hybrid powertrain for its European Transit Custom delivery van in 2019.
