Ford Motor Co. is knocking $4,000 off the retail price of its Focus electric car in the U.S. to help boost demand, Automotive News reports.
The 10% price cut lowers the sticker of a Focus EV with the same content to $36,000. After federal and local tax credits, the price drops to as little as $26,000 in California, the car's biggest market.
Ford said when it introduced the EV last year that it did not expect the car to be a big seller. Volume totaled about 900 units through the first half of 2013, according to AN. That volume equals 0.07% of Ford's total light-vehicle sales for the period.
