Ford CEO Fields to Join IBM Board

Ford Motor Co. CEO Mark Fields has been elected to join the board of IBM Corp. on March 1. He is replacing one of two board members who are retiring.

IBM praises Fields, 55, for leading Ford into a future where cars will become “mobile technology platforms.” Ford tells Reuters the appointment will foster “new relationships” that benefit each company.

Like other carmakers, Ford is exploring new alliances to help position itself as a provider of personal mobility options rather than simply a maker of cars and trucks.
