Ford Motor Co. is hiking prices on its aluminum-intensive 2015 model F-150 pickup truck over a range from $395 for the base model to $3,600 for the top-end King Ranch edition.

Ford is hoping that more features and the possibility of achieving nearly 30 mpg on the highway will coax shoppers to shrug off the pricing increases.

The F-150 has been Ford's top-selling model for decades and America's most popular passenger vehicle for 32 straight years. The new model is due later this year.

Ford tells Bloomberg News the steeper pricing covers added content including greater fuel efficiency but not the higher cost of aluminum compared with steel. The company has said the new model will weigh about 700 lbs less than the current truck.
