Fisker Automotive Inc. is recalling its $103,000-$121,600 Karma extended-range electric sedan to replace a cooling fan that could overheat and cause a fire. The campaign involves an estimated 2,400 cars.
Fisker says the defective fan caused a widely reported blaze that damaged a Karma in California on Aug. 10. The company emphasizes that the fire was not caused by the car's lithium-ion battery, gasoline engine-powered generator or high-voltage management system.
The recall will be the company's third since the four-passenger Karma went on sale last December. Earlier campaigns replaced defective batteries that could cause a fire or cause the vehicle to shut down unnecessarily.
