Fire Hazard Prompts BMW Recall of Electric Water Pumps

BMW AG is preparing to recall 47,800 cars and crossover vehicles in the U.S. to replace faulty auxiliary water pumps that could fail and cause a fire.
BMW will notify owners about the recall in mid-June and begin replacing the pumps later when it has collected a sufficient supply of replacement units.
The campaign involves 69 models produced during the 2007-2012 model years, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Affected BMW-brand models comprise certain 550 sedans and 550 Grand Turismo fastbacks, 750i series 2- and 4-wheel drive large sedans, X6 hybrid crossovers and 650 sport coupes and convertibles.
The recall also will cover 2011 model Rolls-Royce Ghost luxury sedans, plus 2011-2012 model Mini S variant convertibles, Countryman, Clubman, Roadster and Coupe models; and John Cooper Works convertibles, Clubman, Roadster and coupes.
