Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is adding several auditory and visual option packages for its 124 Spider roadster.
Leading the list on Spider Abarth models is a $1,000 Record Monza exhaust option that promises to provide an "unmistakable Abarth growl." The Mopar-tuned kit features stainless steel pipes and a dual-path exhaust setup with a spring-loaded diversion valve that modifies the tone according to different driving dynamics and engine loads.
When the vehicle is at idle or low throttle, exhaust tones are quieter. At full throttle, exhaust flow bypasses the muffler to generate a throatier sound.
On the base Classica model (above), buyers can add the $500 Veleno Appearance Group package, which includes exterior mirror caps, a red lower fascia lip, red front tow hook, carpeted floor mats and a bright footrest. For $300, buyers can get either “double rally” or “retro” center stripes.
The rear-wheel-drive Spider, which shares a platform with the Mazda MX-5 Miata, starts at $25,000 for the Classica edition and $30,000 for the Abarth. The car’s turbocharged, 160-hp 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is carried over.
