Ferrari SpA will increase annual production to as much as 10,000 units from its previous self-imposed cap of 7,000 after direct control of the brand shifts next month to Fiat SpA CEO Sergio Marchionne, says Bloomberg News.

Marchionne believes more volume is justified because the number of those who can afford a Ferrari is expanding.

Ousted Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo intended to hold annual output at or below 7,000 to maintain exclusivity. Marchionne insists that more sales won't harm the brand, which he says "will continue to define us."
