Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV plans to will call back 1.9 million cars and SUVs with a defect that could prevent airbags from deploying in a crash. The company says the flaw has been linked to three fatalities and five injuries.
The recall in the U.S. targets about 1.4 million 2010-2014 model Chrysler 200 and Sebring midsize cars, Dodge Caliber small sedans and Avenger midsize cars and Jeep Patriot and Compass SUVs. Overseas, the campaign also involves 2010 model Chrysler Cirrus small cars and 012-2013 model Lancia Flavia midsize cars.
FCA blames the problem on a special combination of electronic control modules and front impact sensor wiring.
