Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is launching a global recall of 467,500 SUVs to replace a defective fuel pump relay that can cause the engine to stall or prevent it from starting.
The campaign involves 2012-2013-model Dodge Durango and 2011-model diesel-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs sold overseas.
The new recall expands a callback launched last September of 188,700 of the company's 2011 Durango and Grand Cherokees to fix the same problem.
The defective relay is part of a power module that manages several other vehicle systems. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a claim by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Auto Safety that the module could cause a variety of electrical problems in 4.9 million FCA trucks, vans and SUVs.
Chrysler says none of the module's other functions is affected by a failure of the fuel-pump relay.
